Row Counter for Knitting and Crochet

This free row counter keeps your place while you knit or crochet. Tap the big plus button after each row, set a reminder every few rows for pattern repeats, and run several counters at once. It saves on your device, works offline, and can keep your screen awake.

How to use the row counter

  1. Name your counter after the project.
  2. Tap the plus button after each row or round.
  3. Set repeat every N rows if your pattern has a stitch repeat.
  4. Use undo if you tapped by mistake.
  5. Add another counter for stitches or increases.

Counting stitches, rounds and repeats

A counter is just a number you add to, so it fits many jobs. Use one counter for rows or rounds. Use a second for stitches in a row, or for increases and decreases. Name each one so you know what it counts.

Set repeat every N rows to match your pattern. If a stitch pattern repeats every 8 rows, set it to 8. The counter shows a banner at rows 8, 16, 24 and so on, and tells you the next repeat row. Keyboard shortcuts work on the counter that has focus: Space, Up arrow or + adds one, Down arrow or − subtracts one, and U undoes.

Need to pick a hook or needles for the project? See the crochet hook size chart, the knitting needle size chart and the yarn weight chart.

Install and offline tip

After the page loads once, it is saved on your device and runs with no connection. If your browser offers to add it to your home screen, accept, and it opens like an app. Counts are stored in your browser's local storage. Clearing site data removes them, so note down a count before you clear anything.

Frequently asked questions

What is a row counter?

A row counter keeps track of which row you are on, so you can put your knitting or crochet down and find your place later. Physical ones click or turn; ours is a page you tap. It keeps a count for each project, remembers it between visits, and works with no account or internet connection after the first load.

Can I use it for crochet?

Yes. The counter is just a number you add to, so it works for knitting rows, crochet rows or rounds, and any repeat count. Make one counter per project, name each one, and set a repeat reminder if your pattern has a stitch repeat. A second counter can track rounds, increases or stitches.

How do I count stitches as well as rows?

Add a second counter and name it Stitches. Tap it as you work, or reset it at the end of each row. Counters are independent, so you can track rows on one and stitches, increases or pattern repeats on another, and reset any one of them without touching the rest.

Is there a knitting row counter that works offline?

Yes. After the page loads once, it is saved on your device and runs without internet. Add it to your home screen if your browser offers that, and it opens like an app. Your counts stay in your browser's local storage, so clearing site data will remove them.

How does the repeat reminder work?

Set "repeat every" to the number of rows in your pattern repeat, for example 6. Each time the count reaches a multiple of 6, the counter shows a banner, and it can vibrate or beep if you turn that on. The banner clears when you tap again. Set it to 0 to switch the reminder off.

Will the screen stay on while I knit?

If you turn on Keep screen on and your browser supports it, the screen stays awake while the page is open. Some browsers do not support this feature, and the page tells you when that is the case. The setting is saved, but the screen can still dim if your device is low on battery.
